Nomad Media Launches Native Mac and Windows Apps

Nomad Media Launches Native Mac and Windows Apps, Bringing Cloud Media Libraries Directly to the Desktop
Newport Beach, CA, August 2026—Nomad Media, a cloud-native media asset management platform, today announced the upcoming release of Nomad Media Explorer. The pair of native desktop applications for Mac and Windows bring customers' entire media libraries directly into their operating system's file experience, with no separate portal or downloads required to browse stored media.
With Nomad Media Explorer, users' cloud-based media catalogs appear natively inside Finder on Mac and File Explorer on Windows, alongside their local files and folders. Assets can be viewed, searched, shared, and drag and dropped in and out just like any other file on the desktop, while security, permissions, and access controls remain fully governed by each user's existing Nomad Media account.
“We're trying to bring our customers' media to where they are,” said Adam Miller, CEO and Co-Founder, of Nomad Media. “The goal is to make the platform so seamless that it disappears into people's everyday workflow, so they're focused on getting their job done instead of thinking about where their content lives.”
Key capabilities include:
- Native OS integration: Nomad Media Explorer installs as a true native Mac or Windows application, appearing directly within Finder and File Explorer rather than a separate browser-based tool.
- No local caching required: Unlike traditional S3-mounting tools, Nomad Media Explorer does not create duplicate local copies of files, avoiding the storage bloat common with large video files.
- Permission-aware access: Access is governed by each user's existing Nomad Media account permissions, rather than generic cloud storage credentials.
- Resilient uploads and downloads: Large file transfers can pause and resume automatically, even across restarts.
- Instant preview and playback: Built-in proxy and streaming versions allow users to preview and play back media instantly, without the need to wait on large master files to download.
- Single sign-on support: Compatible with both Azure and Okta SSO, as well as standard username and password login.
Nomad Media Explorer entered beta testing with select customers beginning July 2026. The Mac application is available now, and the PC application is expected to reach general availability by the end of September.
Nomad Media Explorer is the latest step in Nomad Media's broader strategy of embedding its platform directly into customers' existing tools and workflows, reducing friction and making enterprise media management feel seamless.
