Frequently Asked Questions

Nomad Media unifies your media workflow from content import to distribution, so teams move faster with fewer tools.

Can I bulk upload content to Nomad Media?

Yes. Nomad Media supports easy bulk upload capabilities. The platform allows you to drag-and-drop entire content libraries directly into the system. Nomad Media's cloud-based infrastructure automatically handles the upload process and can manage assets regardless of size, with automatic storage scaling to accommodate your growing library.

The platform supports multiple file formats for video, audio, documents, and images, making it simple to migrate entire asset libraries at once. During bulk uploads, Nomad Media automatically begins processing assets with AI analysis, metadata enrichment, and proxy generation—so your content becomes searchable immediately after upload.

Can I filter search results?

Yes. Nomad Media provides robust filtering and sorting capabilities to refine search results. Filtering capabilities include:

Advanced filtering: Multiple filter options to narrow results

Category filters: Filter by content categories and collections

Cross-station filtering: Refined search and discovery across multiple stations

Can I search inside videos to find specific moments?

Yes. Nomad Media provides granular content search capabilities that locate specific moments within videos at the timecode level. You can search for:

Specific people: Using facial recognition to identify individuals appearing in videos

Objects and scenes: Visual elements detected through AI object recognition

Spoken words and phrases: Every word is transcribed and searchable through audio transcription

On-screen text: Text detection captures visible text within video frames

Audio bites: Specific audio segments or spoken contentSearch results show the exact timecode where content appears, allowing you to jump directly to relevant moments rather than reviewing entire videos.

For live video streams, Nomad Media can analyze content in near real-time (3-10 second latency) and tag moments as they're captured.

Can I stream to multiple destinations simultaneously?

Yes. The Live Experience platform allows you to share channels to multiple platforms including YouTube, Facebook Live, organizational platforms, and syndication websites.

Can I track version history and changes?

Yes. Nomad Media includes versioning and backup capabilities as part of its management tools. The platform maintains version history for your assets, allowing you to track changes over time.

Additionally, Nomad Media provides native data backup and recovery features, ensuring that your content is protected and previous versions can be restored if needed. This is particularly important for organizations that need to maintain audit trails or comply with regulatory requirements for content tracking.

Can I train the AI to recognize specific people, objects, or terminology?

For people: Yes. Face detection starts by "training" faces as they are uploaded to Nomad and cataloged by AWS Rekognition. You use the Nomad interface to give a name to each group of similar faces. The system creates unique face "thumbprints" that are stored only in your account, and you map those thumbprints to names. This training data stays exclusively in your account and never leaves.

For specific terminology: Yes, to an extent. Nomad Media can utilize specialized models for domain-specific terminology. For example, models can be trained to be highly proficient at identifying medical terminology from audio tracks. These models follow two tracks: generic and specific. However, it's important to note that Nomad Media uses pre-trained models from sources like Hugging Face rather than training custom models on your content.

Can Nomad Media automatically generate subtitles and captions?

Yes. Nomad Media uses audio-to-text models to automatically generate subtitles and captions from the audio track of your videos. The platform has been using audio-to-text models for many years for subtitle creation. Additionally, through Generative AI text summarization, you can automatically create caption information, chapters, and annotations for videos. For large video and audio libraries, this capability provides accurate descriptions without manual transcription work.

Can Nomad Media connect to our on-premises storage?

Yes. Nomad Media delivers universal access to both cloud-hosted and on-premises assets in one place. You can manage assets across S3 buckets, Glacier archives, and on-premises storage from a single browser interface. The platform includes automatic S3 synchronization and requires no installation of agents on your workstations—just log into Nomad Media through your browser and start working.

Can external users search our content library?

Yes. Nomad Media's Content Portal enables external user access with granular permission controls. Access control features include:

User permissions and roles: Administrative controls determine what content users can access and search

Guest contributor approval: Administrators can approve external guest contributors

Content-level and asset-level security: Permissions can be set at both the content and individual asset levels

Role-based security: Different roles can have different search and viewing permissions

Single Sign-On (SSO) support: Integration with existing authentication systems via SAML and OAuth 2.0

Can live streams be automatically recorded and archived?

Yes. Nomad's platform automatically handles live-to-VOD conversion, allowing you to save and distribute any live recording stream. The Event Scheduler can schedule recordings of live shows for re-broadcast and simulcast. What AI capabilities does Nomad Media offer?

Nomad Media offers comprehensive AI capabilities powered by AWS services including Amazon Rekognition and Amazon Transcribe. Core capabilities include face detection and person recognition, audio-to-text transcription for subtitle and caption generation, image-to-text analysis that generates labels and concepts from video frames, text detection, content moderation to identify adult or sensitive material, and intelligent search using Large Language Models. The platform also enables automatic summarization of long-form content, media refinement and modification through text prompts, and both cloud-based and edge-based live video analysis with real-time alerting.

What is AI-powered metadata?

AI-powered metadata refers to the information that Nomad Media's Generative AI automatically creates about your content. Instead of manually tagging and describing media, the AI analyzes your content and generates metadata including labels (objects like "basketball," "chair," or "car"), concepts (themes like "concert," "gambling," or "friendship"), face recognition tags with person names at the timecode level, transcripts and subtitles from audio tracks, text extracted from images (like license plates), content moderation flags, automatic summaries, and chapter markers. This metadata makes your content searchable, discoverable, and more valuable for monetization. The AI uses a combination of audio-to-text and image-to-text models to create this comprehensive metadata package.
